REAR CONVERSION KIT FOR 250W ELECTRIC BIKE

REAR CONVERSION KIT FOR 250W ELECTRIC BIKE

I bet you too are thinking of converting your normal bike into electric without buying one … then get comfortable and see what I bought so you can see if this bike conversion kit is right for you.

The control unit is the heart of every conversion kit: it contains the electronics that runs the engine and decides when to disconnect the current exceeding a certain speed.

It accepts a nominal voltage of 36V with a maximum current of 15A.

The engine mounted directly on the rim of the rear wheel, even if it is from 800W as seen by the white writing, always generates a power limited to 250W.

This is because the control unit is 250W and beyond this power does not work.

I have also bought a 800W control unit but it would take huge batteries that I will build in the future.

The motor is of the brushless type with the coils mounted on the rotor that is integral with the frame, while the magnets turn on the black drum with the wheel (the black disk you see in the picture).

Being the 800W engine I was expecting a much wider rim to mount 3″ tires.

Here you can see the revolving sensors of the bottom bracket to be mounted on the left side, on the pedal that does not carry the crown.

While the sprocket set (on the right of the photo) is to be mounted on the axis of the rear rim, near the engine.

The control unit carries a lot of wires.

A video is provided in a CD-ROM and a printed diagram, but honestly I would have preferred to simplify the system directly during the design phase by reducing the connections and connectors.

Also because they remain many cables that are not connected to anything, but that only create noise and lead to errors during assembly.

The brakes must be replaced with this type that contain a micro switch that tells the control unit not to supply more current because the bike is slowing down.

The package is not very heavy but very cumbersome.

All the components are boxed in polystyrene, even though I would have preferred that the four pieces of polystyrene be one only but of the same size as the box, so as to prevent the cardboard from folding.

The package disappointed me, because the cardboard is too thin and fragile, I would have preferred something more rigid.

This kit is better than the engine that contains the planetary gear, makes less noise, has a greater linearity in the delivery of torque and has a longer life due to the smaller mechanical parts.
